Overview

People admitted to hospital can feel both frightened and anxious, and may find it difficult to make sense of all the new things they need to comprehend, as in the environment, the different professions, the noise, busyness and the routines.

This is particularly more confusing for those with dementia and often they become more confused and sometimes angry as they strive to make sense of things. Having a friendly face and someone who will take time for them can make all the difference to their hospital experience.

This role is purposely designed to befriend and offer stimulation mind therapy to those people with dementia on the Acute Wards.

You will be part of a team of volunteers specific for this service and to enable you to carry this out you will receive Tier 1 and Tier 2 dementia training, provided by the Dementia Lead Nurse Team.
